Safety standards

Safety standards for power supplies are essentially a set of "rulebooks" that ensure a device won't cause a fire, give someone an electric shock, or explode under normal or single fault conditions.

For industry, there are 3 main standards:

  • IEC 62368-1 (Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment) -> It replaced the old IEC 60950-1 (for IT equipment) and IEC 60065 (for Audio/Video).
  • IEC 60601-1 (Medical Grade)
  • IEC 61010-1 (Industrial & Lab)
