SFC is operating from its R&D and manufacturing locations in Almelo, The Netherlands and Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

We are looking for a/an:

(Senior) Electronic Design Engineer


Location: Almelo, the Netherlands

The Electronic Design Engineer will be part of the Research & Development department located in The Netherlands and Cluj-Napoca. You will be responsible for Product Development of switch mode power supplies (SMPS) and other Power Electronics Products within SFC Group, e.g. Hydrogen Power Solutions. You will work 90% from Almelo, but the project teams might have colleagues from our other locations in Romania and Germany.


In your role, you will:

• Perform calculation and/or simulations as a proof of concept for the chosen topology (System, Electronics, Thermal, Electro-Magnetics, EMI);
• Perform tests in order to use new technology into the design;
• Develop/Engineer, based on our simulations-driven approach, a product which is ready to be manufactured, this contains activities like, schematic design, layout of PCB’s, Component selection for a cost-effective Bill Of Material (BOM) and Component design e.g. high frequency transformers and different types of coils;
• Delegate and monitor the mechanical design;
• Verify the environmental, reliability and safety qualification of the design;
• Analyze during the different designs phase errors in manufacturing;
• Support other departments such as Purchasing with e.g. components obsolescence and Sales with e.g. initial design requests, prototypes and testing;
• Be able to lead functional area of Electronic Design and give input to future development and Technology Roadmap;
• Coach and/or train junior Electronic Design Engineers or trainees.


What should your background look like?

Our Design Engineers are at the cornerstone of our projects, shaping the clients’ ideas into reality. Therefore, we expect you to:

• have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics or related field;
• have a minimum of 7 years of experience in Power Electronics;
• have experience in hardware design from scratch with the ability to read schematics;
• be able to manage and prioritize multiple, diverse projects simultaneously;
• have a methodical work approach;
• show initiative and self-management;
• be flexible, disciplined, results-oriented, and able to plan and organize;
• be fluent in Dutch and confident in English (B2), German is an advantage but not a must.
